About Christina
Why did you choose this program?
I chose the program to support me in my career pursuit of a Spanish teacher. I was seeking the skills necessary to teach the diverse students in the American school system as well as be able to efficiently communicate with those students in order to increase their academic success. Furthermore, I wanted to learn how to teach monolingual students to speak Spanish and develop a curiosity and respect for the Spanish-speaking world.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
My Spanish major at HSU helped me develop critical reading, writing, and communication skills. I gained a valuable understanding of cultural differences, acquired a deeper understanding of the world, and became a global thinker.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
The professors in the World Languages Department were available and supportive. I felt like my professors cared about me and my learning experience. The small class sizes afforded me the opportunity to make close friends. Overall the program helped me achieve my dream of being a successful Spanish teacher.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
Not only did I learn the valuable skills needed to be a successful Spanish teacher, I also became a better community member. I felt a sense of belonging and care. My favorite part of my experience is that I had fun in my academic pursuit of a Spanish BA at Humboldt State. I made memories I will cherish my whole life, Go Lumberjacks!
