Forestry Technician

Employer: Small Forestry Consulting firm in Humboldt County, CA.

Job description: As a forestry technician at a small forestry consulting firm in Humboldt County, I get to do a wide variety of work: reforestation, fuels management, wildlife surveys, GIS and map-making, timber inventory and appraisals, and assisting our RPF’s with all aspects of Timber Harvest Plan and Non-Industrial Timber Management Plan writing and administration. Every client has a slightly different management objective, but in the end the goal is always to implement an ecologically-sound management plan that adheres to principles of sustainable forestry. In my job I am consistently pushed to hone my craft and there is rarely a day at work where I don’t learn something new or build on my education in some way, and for that, I feel very fortunate.
