About Bret

Why did you choose this program?

I liked the faculty and was interested in learning more about physics. Also I played a lot of the Half-Life video game at the time where you play as an MIT physicist when one of your experiments goes awry.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

I learned how to approach complex, insurmountable technical problems and come up with solutions to them. While I don't solve physics problems anymore, all of my programming and UNIX experience is still put to daily use.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

I liked the electronics lab, senior lab, learning to program with Mathematica, and visiting Puerto Rico to work on the ill-fated Arecibo telescope before it collapsed.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

Hope you like algebra!
