About Binta
Why did you choose this program?
I cultivated a love of the language in high school and then I met Joseph Dieme in my first few days at HSU which only strengthened my intrigue.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
The fluidity and train of thought of the French language as well as the mentorship of Joseph Dieme have been instrumental in my professional growth.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
Being in class was great. The absolute best part of participating in the French & Francophone Studies program was the pilot study abroad program that Joseph led in 2017 to Senegal. Hardly describable with words, I often still reminisce of the experience and I have made long-time friends from it.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
This program has the potential to increase the versatility of your verbal/written communication skills, if you allow it. I see the ultimate value of participating in this program now that I'm on the outside of it. Though I've benefitted greatly from this program, I was very timid and reluctant of my own nature in the beginning. I feel there's more I could have explored and gained, had I been willing to come more out of my comfort zone sooner. With that being said, I had a lot of personal growth over the course of this program which has helped prepare me for where I am today. A huge THANK YOU, to everyone in the WLC who helped me along the way. Remember, people are here for you and they all want to see you succeed!
