About Annette

Why did you choose this program?

I was initially drawn by the small class sizes, the interdisciplinary nature of the Oceanography degree, and the campus environment.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

My time at Humboldt set the stage for my scientific career. The classes I took within the Oceanography department and externally taught me the foundational concepts that I use daily in my current role. Additionally, there were many opportunities for me to be involved with ongoing research and monitoring efforts, which gave me hands on experience in which to frame my classroom education.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

The faculty of the Oceanography department. They really care about their students and I always felt welcome in class and at office hours. This really increased my confidence to ask questions and further my understanding of class topics.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

I would recommend this program to prospective students. As you can see from my job title, I don't currently work in a marine science role, but the interdisciplinary nature of this degree gave me options as I progressed in my career. I credit this program and the faculty in it for teaching me the base skills to be a good scientist and market my skills to employers.
