Admissions Requirements

In addition to admissions requirements outlined by Cal Poly Humboldt, applicants to the MBA program must complete the following requirements before beginning the program:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited U.S. institution (or foreign equivalent) with a minimum institutional GPA of 3.0.*
  2. Successful completion of foundation courses in accounting, finance, economics and statistics from an accredited college or university. For instance, the acceptable prerequisite courses offered at Cal Poly Humboldt include:
    1. Accounting: BA 250, Financial Accounting
    2. Finance: BA 360, Principles of Finance
    3. Economics: ECON 210, Principles of Economics; ECON 104, Contemporary Topics in Economics
    4. Statistics: STAT 108, Elementary Statistics; MATH 104, Finite Math
  3. Submission of the online application, official transcripts, and payment of the application fee.**

* Exceptions to the 3.0 grade point average (GPA) threshold may be possible on a case-by-case basis if an applicant can demonstrate potential for maintaining the minimum 3.0 GPA at the Graduate level. For instance, if a student has earned a 3.0 GPA on the most recent 60 units attempted in their major program, then this GPA calculation can be used in lieu of the institutional GPA. If the applicant can demonstrate in their application significant professional work experience in a business setting, high test scores on the GRE or GMAT, or excellent performance in postgraduate coursework, the student need not hold an undergraduate institutional GPA of 3.0 in all circumstances. Candidates whose institutional GPA is 2.50 or higher and meet any of the above criteria are still encouraged to apply.

** Students may apply to the program before all requirements have been completed, but they must meet all requirements before beginning coursework. Final admissions decisions will be made by the MBA Graduate Coordinator.

Course Schedule

The one-year, in-person program is based on a "fall" semester admit who has fulfilled all prerequisites. In most cases, a minor in business administration will fulfill the MBA prerequisites. The one-year program typically has the following three semester course schedule. Courses are held in-person from 5:00 - 8:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays during the school year and on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the summer term.
