Dreamer Student Resources
We are all Dreamers
If you are an undocumented student, there are many resources available to you — from grants, loans and scholarships to legal and campus support services.
“To all the other dreamers out there, don't ever stop or let the world's negativity disenchant you or your spirit. If you surround yourself with love and the right people, anything is possible.“
–Adam Green
Applying to Cal Poly Humboldt
How to Apply
California Dreamers are eligible and encouraged to apply to Humboldt. We’re here to offer you support from day one, starting with your application. Discover how to apply, learn about next steps, and start finding your future.
Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
EOP is a state-funded program designed to support first-generation and income eligible students who are California Residents. California Dreamers who qualify for in-state tuition (AB 540 / AB 2000) are eligible and are encouraged to apply for EOP.
Financial Aid and CA Residency
The California Dream Act allows certain students who meet the requirements for Assembly Bill 540 to apply for and receive state financial aid. Filling out the Cal Dream Act application can be a straightforward and easy process if you are prepared with the information necessary to complete the application.
The CSU Nonresident Tuition Exemption is available for certain nonresident students (including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and undocumented individuals) who have attended, graduated, or achieved the equivalent from a California school. These students may be exempted from paying nonresident tuition but must remain classified as “nonresidents” for residence classification and financial aid eligibility purposes.
Health and Wellbeing
Medical and Counseling Services
All enrolled students, regardless of documentation status, can access services and resources provided by Student Health & Wellbeing Services. Student also have access to 24/7 TalkNow support, medical services, and health coaching through telehealth at TimelyCare.
Food and Nutrition
All enrolled students can access the resources provided by Oh SNAP! Student Food Programs. Including non-perishable food items once a week, weekly cooking classes, nutrition education, gardening classes, and a fresh produce stand in the Fall Semester.
While Oh SNAP! will not turn away anyone who wishes to apply for CalFresh, current Calfresh regulations explicitly prohibit DACA and undocumented students from receiving services and applying. Oh SNAP! does not encourage those students to apply for Calfresh. However, the assistance program can work with students to find other nutrition resources.
Health Insurance for DACA Students
Currently, Cal Poly Humboldt does NOT have a student health insurance plan. Regardless of documentation status, all enrolled students can access services and resources provided by Student Health & Wellbeing Services, including the Student Health Center, Counseling & Psychological Services, and Health Education.
Covered California
Individuals may seek healthcare insurance offered through Covered California, the state's health insurance marketplace.
While DACA recipients cannot apply for insurance through Covered California, those who meet the Federal Poverty Level may qualify for Medi-Cal. The California Medical Assistance Program—Medi–Cal or MediCal—is California's Medicaid welfare program serving low-income individuals, including families, seniors, persons with disabilities, children in foster care, pregnant women, and childless adults with incomes below 138% of the federal poverty level.
According to the Medi-Cal website, some undocumented individuals may qualify for Medi-Cal, depending on their immigration status and where they are in the process. However, most undocumented individuals do not qualify for full Medi-Cal Coverage but can still apply.
There are some exceptions: All undocumented individuals with incomes below 138% of the federal poverty level qualify for emergency and pregnancy-related Medi-Cal services. The application is most effectively done with the hospital or prenatal care provider. It is NOT recommended to sign up through Oh SURE.
Family PACT Program
DACA Students and undocumented students may qualify for the Family PACT Program (AKA the Teal Card), California’s innovative approach to providing comprehensive family planning services to low-income women and men. The goals of this health program are to promote optimal reproductive health and to reduce unplanned pregnancies by lowering the barriers that many women and men with unmet needs face in obtaining family planning services. The program fills a critical gap in healthcare for underinsured and uninsured Californians.

The Center also provides a Guide for Advisors as a resource to bolster their learning, assist as issues arise, and provide the best possible support to our students. Here you will find statistics, resource guides, equity tools, and best practices in higher education.
Campus Cultural Centers
The Cultural Centers for Academic Excellence are culturally-based support programs designed to provide Humboldt students with networks that blend cultural, community and faculty engagement with structured mentoring – to assist students in reaching their academic and career goals.
