POWER DOWN HSU 2016-17 STARTS TODAY

September 15, 2016

Today is the first Power Down HSU event for 2016-17!

Power Down HSU is a campus-wide event that saves large amounts of electricity and reduces emissions by simply scaling back ventilation systems, switching off office equipment and taking other steps that will cause minimal disruption and be generally unobtrusive. Even though the behind-the-scenes decrease in electricity consumption will produce the most energy savings, steps that faculty, staff, and students can take are just as important.

In order for this event to be successful and to have more energy savings, Green Campus students are seeking active participation. Ways to save energy are detailed online in the Green Campus pledge for Power Down HSU. In addition, by sharing this message with your peers, the impact will be amplified. By taking simple actions, you can make a big impact!

From four Power Down events during 2015-16 HSU saved 10,632 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and prevented 5,812 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.  The seven planned events this year should yield even better results as the campus community becomes more familiar with the process and finds creative ways to use less electricity during events.

Green Campus, part of HSU’s Office of Sustainability, is preparing a series of Power Down HSU events throughout the academic year so be on the look out for future announcements on the dates below.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration of our request. Please direct any questions or concerns to the Office of Sustainability (tcc4@humboldt.edu).
