Main Electrical Switchgear Replacement, Campus Wide Planned Shut Down, June 2-3

May 7, 2018

As part of the Campus Main Switchgear Replacement project there will be a campus-wide PG&E outage set for the weekend of June 2nd through 3rd with the expectation from the contractor that the outage will be for one long Saturday the 2nd. The outage is necessary to make final connections to the new switchgear and complete our testing and inspection protocol.

Campus emergency generators will be operating but will only power critical elements of supported buildings. In most buildings across campus the loss of power will disable our fire alarm systems and/or egress lighting, as such, we will not be able to allow occupancy in affected buildings. Buildings will have their entrances locked down for the shutdown duration. At Student Business Services the University Police Department will be operational, as it is during PG&E outages, by backup generator. Our expectation is that Theater Arts (KHSU) and Residential Housing Buildings will be operational with the balance of the campus closed for the duration of the outage.

This notification is part of coordination activity that will support this shut down. Our goal is to work with faculty and staff to produce an electrical generation matrix that accounts for critical needs. For any clarifying questions or comments please feel free to contact me.
