Helping Professor Meenal Rana After Accident

Dear Campus Community,

As you may know, Professor Meenal Rana of the Department of Child Development was seriously injured in an automobile accident on July 17. She and her family had been on their way to visit family in Seattle.

Meenal’s husband, Devendra, was fatally injured in the accident. Her son, Shaurya, and her parents were injured but were released after treatment. Meenal required surgery for injuries including fractured vertebrae and skull, and she has a long recovery ahead of her.

Friends and family have asked how they can help Meenal and Shaurya. We have helped to establish two possibilities for colleagues at Humboldt State.

The first is a 'catastrophic leave donation' in which you can donate vacation and sick days for Meenal to use during her recovery.  The letters and forms are available in HSU department offices, and if you have questions about donating or need additional forms, you may contact Judy Risling, Child Development Administrative Support Coordinator, at jap73@humboldt.edu or 707-826-3471.

The second is a GoFundMe campaign, which is intended to minimize the financial toll on Meenal and Shaurya stemming from the accident, memorial service, medical care, rehabilitation, and travel. To donate to the Meenal and Shaurya Support Fund, you can visit www.gofundme.com/48bdxgv4.

Many thanks to all for supporting Meenal and Shaurya.
