Mission: To promote the infusion of faculty research / creative projects into the curriculum through student collaboration with faculty on faculty research or creative projects.

Background: The College is committing up to $10,000 this spring to provide fellowships for students to work with faculty on research projects related to their classes.

Guidelines:

1. Preference will be given to projects that most clearly provide benefit to the student and strengthen faculty teaching and research areas.

2. Work should be collaborative between student(s) and faculty.

3. There must be a tangible project produced, but not necessarily one that is completed within the funded semester. Examples of projects include but are not limited to, articles, conference presentations, grant proposals and creative works. Independent student projects and class assignments will not be funded.

4. Faculty may nominate up to 3 students for a single project.

5. Amount of award will be up to $750 per individual.

6. Regardless of the length of the project, students may receive only one award per academic year. Students and faculty who have not previously participated in this program are encouraged to apply.

7. Students must be regularly matriculated with at least 12 units during the semester the award is received.

8. Faculty will be invited to participate in an open forum sharing session with other faculty regarding the process of integrating students into their research.

9. Student Receipt of Funds: Funds will be disbursed to students during the final month of project completion. Faculty sponsor is responsible for notifying the college when the project is in the final four weeks of completion.

10. Students must participate in IdeaFest (April 22, 2016) to share and discuss their work and they must also post on a Student/Faculty Research blog housed on the AHSS web site. Alternate public presentations of research may be allowed under extenuating circumstances with the prior approval of the AHSS Dean.
