You Are Invited to the February Professional Development: Why We Do What We Do

February 3, 2015

The Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs is pleased to host the following professional development workshop for the month of February. Note that the session is offered twice to accommodate the staffing of our offices.

Why we do what we do: historical and philosophical perspectives on the student services profession

Presenters

Dr. Barb Snyder, Vice President for Student Affairs, The University of Utah

Dr. Kari Ellingson, Associate Vice President for Student Development, The University of Utah

“The intent of student affairs has always been to connect people who need with people who care” (Chambers, 1987).  But how did student affairs come to serve this role in higher education?  How have both our students and our responsibilities changed over time?  And what philosophies and values guide our work?  This presentation will include an introduction to the early roots of student affairs, the evolving nature of the field, and principles on which best student affairs practices are based.
