Update: Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI)

March 28, 2016

Dear HSU campus community,

As some of you are aware, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is currently undergoing a significant transition. The combination of Radha Webley’s recent appointment as AVP of Retention and Inclusive Student Success, which has meant her leaving her role as Director of ODI, with Melissa Meiris’s upcoming move to the College of eLearning and Extended Education, will leave ODI temporarily without leadership while we embark on the process of identifying and hiring a new Director.

During this transition time, I want to assure you of my commitment to maintaining the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, whose work I see as integral to our campus community and to our ability to meet HSU’s strategic priorities and goals.

Academic Affairs will launch the search for a new Director of ODI in the coming weeks, convening a search committee that is broadly representative of the many stakeholders in this work. I will look to the committee to work with me on clarifying goals and directions for this important position, and to gather feedback from the larger campus community to help craft the position description. I expect to post the position as soon as possible in order to enable us to bring finalists to campus early in the Fall semester, with the goal of having a new Director on campus by late Fall. Given these developments, much of ODI’s day-to-day operation will be temporarily suspended until the search for a new Director is complete. Rest assured, I am committed to ensuring that this situation is as short-term as possible.

I have been actively seeking feedback from campus community members about strategic directions for ODI as we move forward and invite any member of the campus community to email me thoughts and feedback regarding the Director position and next steps/directions for the office. I would very much appreciate hearing your perspectives on this matter.

Again, I want to emphasize my commitment to ODI, as well as to running an inclusive and collaborative hiring process that will ensure the future success of ODI and of our campus as a whole.

Sincerely,

Alex Enyedi
