UPDATE – Campus Phone Issues

August 24, 2015

UPDATE--As of this morning, most issues with the HSU phone system have been resolved. However, digital phones (those with a caller ID screen) are still not ringing audibly. The phones are able receive incoming calls, but there is no sound.

Telecommunications & Network Services is focusing on that issue today. They say that, for offices that also have an analog phone, a temporary solution is to forward the digital phone to it. Analog phones will ring as usual.

PROBLEMS WITH HSU PHONE SYSTEM

The University’s phone system has been having a number of problems since Saturday morning, including calls not going through and voicemail not functioning.

The issues began during a scheduled emergency maintenance over the weekend. The software that runs the phone switch system failed, and staff had to carry out an extensive rebuild.

By Sunday afternoon, most of the problems appeared to have been fixed, but errors were still being discovered and some functionality was still not available. Notably, certain types of phone were still not ringing audibly during an incoming call.

Emergency calling has been available on campus throughout the outage. All 911 calls were diverted to Arcata Police Department, and University Police Dispatch was able to use analog lines and cellular back-up.
