Trione Graduate Scholarship Faculty Honoree

October 13, 2015

Funded by a generous donation from Henry Trione, the Trione Graduate Scholarship has been established to honor outstanding faculty scholars by attracting and supporting highly-qualified graduate students with whom they wish to work.

For a third year, a Trione Graduate Scholarship in the amount of $15,000 (plus tuition) per year, for up to two years, will be available for a student admitted for Fall 2016.

Faculty members who teach in Humboldt State University’s graduate programs are invited to submit applications for selection as the Trione Graduate Scholarship Honoree.  The Honoree will have the opportunity to offer the Trione Graduate Scholarship to an incoming student who has been admitted to her/his graduate program via the usual procedure and whose area of interest aligns with the research area of the faculty member.

A committee comprising the College Deans and the Graduate Dean will select the faculty Honoree on the basis of the following four criteria:

1)      The faculty member’s productivity in research/creative activity (information provided by the faculty member via a CV covering the past five years):

·        Peer-reviewed publications

·        Presentations, performances, and/or poster sessions

·        Grants and/or contracts

2)      The faculty member’s record of activities aimed at enhancing inclusive excellence (information provided by the faculty member via a personal statement).

3)      The faculty member’s record of success in mentoring graduate students (data provided by institutional sources via a request by application evaluators):

·        Advisees’ average length of time to degree as compared to the program average

·        Number of advisees completing the degree over the past five years as compared to the program average

4)      Student demand for the graduate program as represented by yield (data provided by institutional sources via a request by application evaluators)

·        Yield over the past five years: the number of applications, admissions, and enrollments in each of those years.

To apply for consideration as a Trione Graduate Scholarship Honoree, please submit an application electronically to hsugrad@humboldt.edu by November 6, 2015. The Honoree will be announced by the end of the Fall 2015 semester.

The application consists of the following:

2.      A personal statement describing the faculty member’s record of activities aimed at enhancing inclusive excellence.
