Sustainable Futures Speaker Series

As part of the Sustainable Futures Speaker Series, Dr. Frank Lake will present "Learning from Traditional Knowledge to Guide the Future of Sustainable Forestry Management."

Frank Lake received a Bachelor of Science degree from University of California-Davis (1995) in Integrated Ecology and Culture with a minor in Native American Studies. In 2007 he completed his PhD from Oregon State University’s Environmental Sciences Program.

Lake works for the USDA Forest Service-Pacific Southwest Research Station, Fire and Fuels Program, on tribal and community forestry and related natural resource issues. His research focuses on restoration ecology and the incorporation of traditional knowledge into wildland fire and forest management in the Pacific Northwest and California, with an emphasis on the Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion. Recently, more of his focus is how tribal traditional knowledge can be incorporated in to scientific climate change research to support tribal adaptation and mitigation strategies. 

The Sustainable Futures Speaker Series is presented by Humboldt State University’s Environment & Community Graduate Program, the Schatz Energy Research Center, and the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences.

The presentation will take place Thursday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. in Founders Hall 118 .
