June 3, 2016

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A trip to the Division II National Championships, a West Region title and a California Collegiate Athletic Association first place finish earned the Humboldt State softball coaching staff the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II West Region Coaching Staff of the Year award.

In her third season leading the Green and Gold, Head Coach Shelli Sarchett and Assistant Coach Alicia Reid returned the program to the National Championships for the first time in three years. HSU also ended 2016 ranked second in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

"It is an honor for both coach Reid and I to receive this award," said Sarchett. "It is not easy work when it is just the two of us. But when you have great kids who buy into what you are teaching, it makes the process much easier. We can't do this without these girls, and what they put in day in and day out makes it all worthwhile."

The Green and Gold wrapped the season with a 54-8-1 record, its best finish since the 2007 campaign.
