PLANNED ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN THIS WEEKEND

August 4, 2016

The University was recently awarded funding from the Chancellor’s Office to replace our main electrical switchgear as well as a number of building transformers.  Facilities Management has begun the planning and design process associated with this project.  Our design team requires on-site field investigation to begin the design; this effort entails inspecting our main switchgear, number manholes and identified buildings and their associated transformer.

To complete inspections, TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWNS are required.  We are planning to conduct the field investigation this weekend (Saturday, August 6
and Sunday, August 7).  The effort will require a temporary shutdown for up to a 2.5 hour period; we have provided a schedule below but such is subject to change based on conditions encountered:

Saturday, August 6

  • Facilities Management, 9:00 a.m.- 11:30 a.m.
  • Natural Resources, 11:30 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
  • Forestry, 1:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.
  • University Center, 3:00 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.

Sunday, August 7

  • Gist Hall, 6:30 a.m.- 8:30 a.m.
  • Student Health Center, 8:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m.
  • Library, 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
  • Siemens Hall, 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m.
  • Science B & C, 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.

Facilities Management staff will be on hand to assist our consultant with all shutdowns and to ensure buildings remain safe as well as ensure services are properly restored.  We appreciate your patience, understanding and support while we work to complete the design for this important campus project.  Should you have any questions, please contact Traci Ferdolage at traci.ferdolage@humboldt.edu or via cell phone at (707) 267-4146.
