"Housing Affordability and Availability in Arcata"

Monday, April 15, 5:30-7 p.m.,Siemens Hall Room 108 

What are the causes of the current housing challenges facing students and other members of the community? What are policies and/or practices most likely to help address these challenges? These questions will be addressed by panelists: 

  • Chant'e Catt, HSU Off-Campus Housing Liaison
  • Nezzie Wade, President, Affordable Homeless Housing Alternatives (AHHA)
  • Tony Wallin, HSU Investigative Journalism Student, co-author of "The Housing Games" (North Coast Journal 12/13/18)
  • Jane Woodward, Member, Arcata Economic Development Commission and Arcata Citizens for Responsible Housing (ACRH)

Dr. Stephanie Burkhalter, of the HSU Politics Department, will moderate.   

The lecture series' namesake, Victor Schaub, was an Arcata civil attorney and professional mediator who was elected to the City Council in 1988 and served two terms, until 1996. He served as mayor from 1990-95. Victor died in 2004 at the age of 60, and the Victor Schaub Memorial Lecture series was established in his honor.
