Obbema and Holland Earn CCAA Softball Weekly Honors

April 20, 2016

SAN RAMON, Calif. – After clinching the 2016 California Collegiate Athletic Association softball championship last week, Humboldt State senior Katie Obbema and sophomore Hanna Holland earned conference Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively, Tuesday.

"I am just so proud of both of these ladies and the work they have put in this year," said Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "They have continued to put up strong numbers and perform solidly throughout the season."

Obbema was a workhorse for the Green and Gold pitching staff last week. She tossed four complete games, including a 12-inning showdown versus SF State. The senior went 4-0 and compiled a 1.27 earned run average as she helped guide the Jacks to a conference title. She logged 14.0 innings in two wins against Sonoma State and fanned 12 Seawolves. Obbema tossed a season-high 12.0 innings Friday and matched a career-best with 11 strikeouts en route to her 19th win. She followed up Saturday's 147-pitch performance with a complete game win over SF State to capture her 20th decision.

Holland earned her third weekly conference honor and matched Chico State's Desiree Gonzalez for most Player of the Week selections this season. She had a record-breaking week and broke the program's single-season stolen base record held by Jamie Peterson for the last 18 years. The Oakdale, Calif., product batted .406, stole 10 bases, drove in five runs and compiled a .525 on-base percentage. Holland's 62 stolen bases rank second in the CCAA record book, which trails only Deanna Dresman's 82 stolen bases during the 1990 season.

HSU hosts Cal State East Bay this weekend. The four-game series begins Friday at 1 p.m. Senior Day festivities will be held prior to Saturday's first game, which is a scheduled 11 a.m. first pitch.
