The Moodle Servers’ Time is Almost Up!

December 7, 2017

It’s time to say your final goodbyes to the Moodle servers, so you’ll need to retrieve materials now before your access is disabled; see schedule below for which courses will become unavailable when. If you have an ongoing course or Moodle site on the Courses server that's not yet been moved to another solution, the following alternatives are recommended:

  • Google Team drive, which offers collaboration, unlimited storage, and user permissions to define roles

  • SkillPort for various training opportunities, which offers online sign-up, email reminders to attendees, printed certificates on completion

  • Departmental websites for materials that are public-facing.

Close-down Schedule

Data on both the Moodle Courses and Learn servers will be backed up and the servers placed in archive mode or decommissioned as follows:

  • Ongoing courses - Fall 2017 and earlier

The ongoing courses server will be archived as of 1/1/2018, after which you’ll need to submit a Technology Help Desk ticket to request materials. The old backup server will be wiped after back-up and decommissioned as of 1/1/2018. The data on this server is a duplicate back-up of the Courses server that housed ongoing and non-course programs, which is not needed after 1/1/2018.

  • Summer 2015 to Summer 2017 courses

The last day for self-service access will be 2/1/18, after which you’ll need to submit a Technology Help Desk ticket to request materials. Faculty and students will also be able to request retrieval of materials for incomplete grades from Spring and Summer 2017. Please contact Academic Technology's LMS office about the Incomplete Grade process in Canvas.

Duplicate backups of Summer 2015 to Summer 2017 course data will be erased after back-up and decommissioned as of 1/1/2018.

  • Spring 2013 to Spring 2015 courses

Data on these servers will be archived as of 1/1/2018, after which you’ll need to submit a Technology Help Desk ticket to request materials.

  • Summer and Fall 2012 courses

This data will be permanently erased after back-up and decommissioned on 1/1/2018 because the five-year grade challenge period ends on 12/31/2017.

If you have any questions or concerns, please submit a Technology Help Desk ticket and the Academic Technology folks will help you out.
