“Adventures in Plasma Physics  via Supercomputer Simulation”

Kenneth Owens, Ph. D. & Tim Lauck,
Department of Mathematics, HSU

Thursday, October 23, 2014
Behavioral and Social Sciences Building Room 204, 4 p.m.

Recently we have been able to show excellent agreement between supercomputer simulations and theoretical plasma collision frequencies by using a one-dimensional far-field particle-in-cell mover along with near-field Coulomb collisions. Undergraduates, graduates and faculty in math, physics and computer science are working on this project with the hope of contributing to the ongoing quest to make controlled fusion energy on Earth a reality. Join these HSU fusion aficionados for a lively discussion of current results, as well as ongoing work and future plans both from a theoretical and computational perspective.

Don't forget coffee, tea and goodies at the Pre-Colloquium Tea at 3:30 in the 3rd Floor Open Area in the BSS building. For the complete abstract, please go to
