LAWN NEAR MUSIC A BUILDING CLOSED

September 4, 2015

Please be advised that Facilities Management has temporarily closed the lawn just west of the Music A building and through access on the west side of the same building due to pedestrian safety concerns.

On Thursday afternoon several large branches from the dominant redwood tree at the edge of the closed lawn broke, but were caught in the other branches before reaching the ground.  Due to the windy conditions the broken branches may come down unexpectedly, so until qualified personnel can climb the tree and remove the limbs the area has been cordoned off.  Please respect the barriers and stay clear of the affected area.  Nearby lawns are open for sitting in the sun while the campus enjoys late summer sunny days.  It is likely on Friday that chainsaw and equipment noise will cause some disruptions in the area while repairs are implemented.

It is not unusual for tree branches to break away during this time of year when moisture is at peak low points and hot weather inland create strong gusting winds, further stressing weak branches.
