Jená Burges Named Acting Provost

June 22, 2015

To the University Community:

I am very pleased that Dr. Jená Burges, Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, has agreed to serve as acting Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs from now until the arrival of an interim provost in early July.  Jená continues to be an invaluable source of continuity and information as we search for a Provost, and I am grateful for her help.

Since Jená joined Humboldt State University in 2006, we have benefitted from her experience as a faculty member in English, director of Freshman Writing and General Education, and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Longwood University.   She also previously served as a faculty member and composition program director at Northern Arizona University.  She was awarded the prestigious American Council on Education Fellowship in 2004-05, during which she received a broad introduction to higher education administration through working with the president, provost, and senior leadership at the University of North Carolina at Ashville.

In addition to my gratitude to Jená for her good work, I also want to extend that appreciation to the entire University community, as we work together to move HSU forward.

Please remember that the open meetings with the Registry candidates for the Interim Provost position will be on Wednesday (6/24/15) at 9 a.m. (Dr. David Westfall), 10:15 a.m. (Dr. Theodora Kalikow), and 1:00 p.m. (Dr. James Kelly).  All of these sessions will be in the University Center Banquet Room.  And I’ll be looking for all feedback by 2:15 p.m. that day.  Many thanks!

With best wishes,

Lisa A. Rossbacher, Ph.D.
President
