INFORMATION ABOUT POSSIBLE FACULTY STRIKE

Dear University Community,

As you are no doubt aware, the California Faculty Association recently announced plans for a potential strike on all 23 CSU campuses April 13-15 and April 18-19, 2016. To date, CSU representatives have not been able to reach a salary agreement with the CFA through the collective bargaining process. While we remain committed to the process and hopeful for its positive outcome, our campus leadership team and many others throughout the University have been planning for the possibility of a strike.

If a strike should occur, non-striking employees will be expected to come to work on scheduled workdays at their regular work time and perform their normal job duties.  Any unapproved absence or failure to perform normal job duties may result in disciplinary action up to and including being charged with an absence without leave.  

During a strike, there may be picket lines at the entrance to our campus. Non-striking employees are expected to cross the picket line to enter campus or choose an entrance that does not have a picket line.  Non-striking employees are not obligated to share with picket line members their name, classification, or job location.

While we do not anticipate that striking CFA members will engage in any type of harassment, if any employee experiences harassment from a picket line member or feels unsafe, the incident should be reported immediately to University Police Department at 707-826-5555.

I also want you to be aware that should a strike occur, media may be on campus and may ask people to comment. You have the right to choose whether to be interviewed. You may also direct media inquiries to our public affairs staff at 707-826-3390.

I want to emphasize that, in the event of a strike, we plan to maintain full campus operations with minimal disruption to students, faculty, staff, and guests.
