INCREASED SECURITY AND GREATER CONVENIENCE

July 13, 2016

It’s rare that ITS gets to put those two attributes together, but this time we can! Starting July 15, users of most HSU-owned computers will be automatically logged into all single sign-on services when they log into their computers using a process called SPNEGO. So there’s no longer any need to save your myHumboldt password in your browser’s cache – which is a small but significant security risk – when you want to save time logging into other apps. Time-outs will still apply to myHumboldt and other single sign-on services, but the process of signing back in will be automated.

There are a few exceptions to this new process – labs and other shared computers, student workers using _cs accounts, users needing to temporarily log into a computer as someone else. More details about these exceptions and any necessary workarounds are detailed on the ITS website.

If you have any questions about single sign-on or security issues, please contact the Information Security office at x3815.
