June 6, 2017

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the second time in as many seasons, the Humboldt State softball coaching staff was selected as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.

After leading the Lumberjacks on back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division II National Championships and making the program’s fifth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance, Head Coach Shelli Sarchett’s staff earned the West Region’s top honors. HSU is now eligible for the National Coaching Staff of the Year award.

“First off we want thank the NFCA and our fellow coaches for this honor,” said Sarchett. “It is great to be recognized for all the hard work we put in all year long. We can't do what we do everyday without a very supportive staff who goes above and beyond everyday to make our student athletes experiences memorable.”

Sarchett and Assistant Coach Alicia Reid guided the Jacks to a 44-15 mark and a 22-11 conference record. The Green and Gold went 6-2 in the postseason including a 5-0 stretch through Regionals and Super Regionals. HSU captured a CCAA Tournament championship and was the West Region’s No. 2 seed.
