Presentations by faculty, staff and students. All presentations will be 3-7 minutes long, with time at each half hour to talk to the presenters and share your ideas too.


Come for half an hour or two and a half hours!

Lunch and snacks are provided - please bring your own mug for drinks.

Day One Dynamics: Serving up the Course Syllabus with a Side of Self-Disclosure (Troy Lescher, Department of Theatre, Film & Dance)

No tech, high-impact - Evaluate the impact of self-disclosure with your students on day one of the semester and collect a variety of self-disclosing practices (for instructors).


Wikipedia Edit-A-Thons (Schay Dowell, History major)

Low tech, high-impact - Discover how Humboldt State has joined the editing trend; fixing, expanding and creating Wikipedia pages. Attendees will learn how editing Wikipedia helps all HSU students find better resources and references, as well as provides students with experience publishing and creating citations.


Finals on the Fly (Matthew Dean & Russell Gaskell, World Languages and Cultures Department)

Low tech, life/work hack - Learn how to successfully administer a final while getting your car's oil changed and/or working on your tan poolside.


The Power of the Powtoon! (Armeda Reitzel, Communication)

High tech, out of the classroom - Presentation on Powtoon and how it can be used in a course.


Introducing Prezi (Milly J. Correa, Graphic Design Major, English Writing Minor)

High tech, life/work hack - Learn about a useful tool for making presentations at work, in class, or in other settings. Prezi is collaborative, easy to share with others, and easy to use.


Designing from the Top Down (Brent Eviston, Extended Education)

No tech, life/work hack - How would an architect design an outreach program?  What can furniture design teach us about curriculum design? Streamline the creation of any project by adopting the practices and processes used by designers.

Postcards to the Past & Present: Using Humboldt Room Archives to Help Students with Writing and Analysis (Janelle Adsit & Carly Marino, English and Library)

Low tech, out of the classroom, high-impact - Learn how to incorporate visual resources available in the Humboldt Room in class assignments; design a class activity that engages students in critical, analytical and creative thinking about visual resources; and explore postcards of Humboldt County available in the Library.
