HSU TRAININGS ON 'ACTIVE SHOOTER' SITUATIONS

October 6, 2015

The most recent tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College is a sad reminder that we all must be vigilant and prepared to help keep our community safe. In response to campus demand, Training and Professional Development (T&D) has coordinated with the University Police Department (UPD) to offer two instructor-led trainings on “Active Shooter” situations this fall, in addition to those previously scheduled. UPD instructor-led trainings are scheduled for: October 27, 2015; November 9, 2015; January 13, 2016; and April 27, 2016. If demand for additional instructor-led sessions is desired, more training sessions will be coordinated and I will send a follow-up announcement with registration details.

You may also utilize SkillPort and Homeland Security for information and strategies on “Active Shooter” situations. In addition to an online course, there are SkillBriefs providing guidance on the following topics:  When Law Enforcement and EMS Arrive; Being Prepared; and Survival Principles. This content can be accessed on the SkillPort landing page and on the training website.

Taken together, these courses increase our preparedness as a campus and our ability to keep our community safer.
