What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or campaigns by raising contributions from a large number of people, typically through internet based mediums.

HSU is now using crowdfunding to share the project goals of HSU students, faculty, and staff to build awareness with the community and solicit support. The power of social media and other digital communication mediums allows the campaign message to reach more potential supporters than traditional fundraising measures.

How does crowdfunding at HSU work?
Student groups, faculty and staff here at HSU apply for their projects to be featured in the university’s new crowdfunding platform. Promising ideas are approved and posted, and several times throughout the year, new batches of fundable projects are released online.

• Throughout the fundraising period, funds are collected and added up - you can visit the project page to check in on the progress at any time.
• You will also receive updates directly for any project that you’ve funded. At the end of the fundraising period, the campaign closes, and all the contributions from the community are totaled and awarded to the project.
• Expect a final project update from the team and an outpouring of gratitude because you (and a whole lot of other people) just made a huge difference at HSU. Thank you!

We need your help!
You can also support HSU students by donating and then sharing your favorite HSU campaign page with your social media network. Any amount is welcome, and anyone can contribute! Even if a project doesn’t directly support your department, promoting HSU crowdfunding projects demonstrates our campus’ commitment to supporting HSU students. Each campaign can easily be shared on social media using the tools on each campaign’s page. Help us share your favorite projects with more potential supporters!

Do you have a project that could use funding?
All Humboldt State University, programs and registered student organizations are eligible for project submission. Please note that no individual may benefit from the funds raised.

Here’s the easy online form which includes all of the basic information you'll need to gather to submit a project. Take a few minutes to fill out the form and someone will be in touch with you within 3-5 business days. Each posted project is approved by the HSU Advancement Foundation (Tax ID 94-6077724).
