HSU's New Password System Goes Live This Week

May 21, 2015

On June 3, 2015, HSU will introduce a new approach to setting and resetting your HSU password. The new tool, Account Settings, will make the password setting and resetting process much faster, for two main reasons:

  1. If you’re already logged into myHumboldt or another single sign-on application, you will be able to access Account Settings without having to log in again.
  2. If you’ve forgotten your password, you can have a one-time password reset PIN sent to your registered cellphone number to use to access Account Settings and reset your password.

Get ready for the changes

There are a couple of things you can do before June 3 to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible:

  1. Make sure that your cellphone number is registered in PeopleSoft.
  2. Make sure you’ve set your security questions in Account Center; they will be transferred automatically to the new Account Settings application.

What else is changing?

The CSU is adopting an enhanced security policy which requires some changes to the rules about password complexity and expiration intervals.

  • Your password
    • no longer needs to include special characters
    • cannot include any word found in the dictionary
    • must include at least one capital letter
  • Everyone with PeopleSoft access must use a password of at least 10 characters
  • Everyone with access to PeopleSoft HCM is now required to change their password every 90 days
  • Staff and Faculty must have three security questions on file in Account Settings and/or a cellphone number registered in PeopleSoft, otherwise they will be required to provide the Technology Help Desk with identification in person for forgotten password resets

If you have questions about the new tool, check with the Technology Help Desk at x4357.
