Health Center Re-Opens

August 14, 2014

Staff have been allowed to return to work at the Student Health Center after it was temporarily closed due to asbestos. The issue was resolved earlier this week, and the campus has a certification from SHN Consulting Engineers and Geologists to enter and utilize the building.

Patient care will be available as planned starting 9 a.m., Aug. 25.

The asbestos was discovered last Thursday by a contractor who was installing new carpet in an office. During the work, some tiles came loose. Because they were not a typical size for asbestos-containing tiles, the contractor assumed it was not a problem.

The campus has taken precautions to mitigate any possible risks to employees, students and contractors. Individuals who may have been affected have been contacted and provided information.

Anyone involved or affected may contact Risk Management for more information at 826-3512.
