Eight Lumberjacks Named to CCAA Winter All-Academic Team

July 2, 2019

The California Collegiate Athletic Association recognized the outstanding scholastic accomplishments of eight Humboldt State basketball players as they were named to the conference's Winter All-Academic Team Tuesday.

Jovanah Arrington, Gabrielle Carbajal, Darian Gore, Madeline Hatch, Tyra Turner, Jamarlin Jackson, Victor Mijas and Jackson Strong represent the Lumberjacks on the list of CCAA academic all-stars. Arrington concluded her basketball career with the Green and Gold with her third consecutive Winter All-Academic nod while teammates Hatch and Turner garnered academic accolades for the second straight season. Jackson, Mijas and Strong were recognized on the prestigious Winter All-Academic Team for the first time in their careers.

The CCAA recognizes individuals academically per season - fall, winter and spring - for all conference sponsored sports. In order to earn CCAA All-Academic team honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing or higher, and own a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better while competing in a CCAA-sponsored sport in that season. The Winter All-Academic Team consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men's and women's basketball.

A total of 80 men and women from across the CCAA's 13 member institutions have been honored for their efforts in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year.

HSU basketball schedules for the 2019-20 season will be released later this summer, and fans are encouraged to visit HSUJacks.com regularly for team news and more.
