Chief of Police Candidates on Campus Sept. 17-18

Humboldt State University is in the process of hiring a new Chief of Police. The two finalists will be on campus for their final in-person interviews and Open Forums as listed below. This is a critical position within HSU and as such, we request your participation and input following their presentations. Please use this link to download the survey after the Open Forums.

Hard copies of this survey will also be available on the 17th and 18th in SBS 405 and at the Open Forums in Goodwin Forum.

DONN G. PETERSON
Chief of Police candidate Donn G. Peterson, originally from California, currently holds the position of Major for the Broward Sheriff's Office in South Florida. He has over 29 years of law enforcement experience with 12 years of consecutive command-level experience in both large metropolitan areas and college campus enforcement services. He describes his leadership style as one that leads by example and has a well-rounded and diverse skill set. His entire family has worked in academia and he is an adjunct instructor for the International Association of Chiefs of Police and is certified as a law enforcement instructor in the State of Florida. Mr. Peterson graduated from the Union Institute & University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Management. He graduated from the 216th session of the FBI National Academy and is a graduate of the Broward Sheriff's Office Institute of Criminal Justice Studies Executive Leadership Program.

SALLY M. MILLER
Chief of Police candidate Sally M. Miller is the current Deputy Chief of Police for Sonoma State University. She has over 25 years of law enforcement experience with the last 6 1/2 years as Deputy Chief of Police and Interim Chief of Police with direct responsibility for all operational, fiscal, and personnel administration. She describes her leadership style as a humanistic and community oriented policing style and understands the importance of working within shared governance to effect positive change. She is a sought-after presenter on the local, state and national level and is a consulted expert in the Federal Sex Crimes Prevention Act, Jeanne Clery Act, and Violence Against Women Act. She graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. She holds Peace Officer Standard and Training (POST) Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory and Management certificates as well as the POST Executive courses.
