On-Campus Flu Vaccines for Students, Faculty, and Staff

September 17, 2018

Student Health & Wellbeing Services announced a partnership with Safeway to offer FREE flu vaccines for all fully matriculated HSU students and to provide on-campus vaccinations to staff and faculty. Vaccines will be provided on Friday, Oct. 5, noon-5 p.m., on the Quad (South Lounge if rain), and Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2-6 p.m. at the Recreation & Wellness Center Lounge.

Safeway will be able to bill some insurances. Faculty and staff should check with their insurance plan to discuss coverage or reimbursement options; $30 on-site cash or credit card payment is also available.

Individuals who miss one of the scheduled on-campus vaccination clinics are encouraged to contact their local pharmacy or primary care physician directly.

Influenza vaccines — though not 100 percent effective — significantly reduce the risk of the flu and its complications. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual influenza vaccinations for everyone six months or older, and to take these additional steps to help protect yourself from the flu and other viruses:

  • Wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Use an alcohol-based sanitizer on your hands if soap and water aren't available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth whenever possible.
  • Avoid crowds when the flu is most prevalent in your area.
  • Practice good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, exercise regularly, drink plenty of fluids, eat a nutritious diet and manage your stress.

You can also help prevent the spread of the flu by staying home if you do get sick.
