Put Names to Faces in Your Classes

ITS has enabled a fantastic new feature for faculty and advisors. We can now view photos once we login to the faculty center. You can see photos of your classes. Just bring up the roster, click on one student's photo, then select "view all" to have it bring up in list view your students' photos.

Book Ordering Deadline—Oct 25

With fall semester underway, we at the bookstore are looking towards next semester and beginning the spring adoption process! Submit your textbook requests through email or by telephone by October 25st. Submitting your course materials requirements before the October 25st deadline ensures the university is in compliance with the 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act, which requires the full cost of a class to be available prior to registration; including all texts and supplies needed for the course. We work with several organizations, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Rehabilitation, the campus Student Disability Resource Center to fulfill these students’ needs, with many of these students relying solely on the bookstore for their textbooks each semester. Getting your textbook requests in before the October 25th deadline directly affects our ability to help these students, as well as the campus community.

The bookstore serves a diverse student population; each student comes in with a different need and situation. Your early submission helps us develop practical solutions for these students and your courses needs, whether it’s locating hard to find books, creating custom content such as bundles and course packets, or pursuing cost saving avenues, such as our popular rental program.

Thank you,

The HSU Bookstore

Right now we have two new trial subscriptions (descriptions pulled from ProQuest):

Ancestry Library Edition (until October 13)
Ancestry Library Edition is a new genealogy research tool created for the library market and provides patrons instant access to a wide range of unique resources for genealogical and historical research. With more than 1.5 billion names in over 4,000 databases, Ancestry Library Edition includes records from the United States Census; military records; court, land and probate records; vital and church records; directories; passenger lists and more! These collections are continuously expanding, with new content added every business day.

Digital National Security Archive (until October 13)
Created in collaboration with the National Security Archive, this database is the most comprehensive collection available of significant primary documents central to U.S. foreign and military policy since 1945.

Access the databases on the HSU website here: http://library.humboldt.edu/acquisitions/restricted/trial.html

I will announce the other trial subscriptions as they become available.

*I would also really appreciate any feedback about these resources, and would like to hear if you're using them for research, in your classes, or to support instruction, etc. You can email me directly.
