Add to-dos to Google Calendar using Reminders

February 3, 2016

Your Google calendar is great for keeping track of what's coming up, and to-do lists are great for keeping track of what needs to get done. But when you manage them separately, as many of us do, it's hard to see everything that’s going on and prioritize what's important.

That’s starting to change. If you use Google’s Calendar app for Android or iOS, you can now create Reminders to keep track of your to-dos alongside your events. Here’s how it works:

Reminders help with the details

Reminders can be created the same way as an event - by tapping the red Create icon (“+”) in the bottom right corner of the screen. The Calendar can then add things like phone numbers and addresses automatically, using information from your contacts to provide a bit of extra help.

Reminders stick around

While events come and go, Reminders stick with you over time, silently nagging you until the tasks are actually done. If a task isn't completed, it will keep appearing at the top of your Calendar every day. All it takes is a quick swipe to close it out when the task is done.

Upcoming Reminder expansion

Soon, you’ll be able to add Reminders to your Gmail inbox, so it will be really easy to add a Reminder to your Calendar when you're checking your email or only have time to create a quick note. The company is also bringing Reminders to the web.

There’s more good information about using reminders on the Google website.
