12th annual Victor T. Schaub Memorial Lecture on Local Politics

Presents: Betty Kwan Chinn

Betty Kwan Chinn has been working with the homeless population in Eureka for almost three decades. She has tirelessly sought to assist the mentally ill, disabled veterans, runaways, and drug abusers without judgement and without pay. She won the 2008 California Women’s Conference Minerva Award and, working with St. Vincent DePaul Society, used the award money to build a shower and laundry facility with the motto “Restoring dignity one shower at a time.” In 2010, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Citizen’s medal. In 2013, the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center Opened in Partnership with Catholic Charities. The center offers mail, phone and computer services to clients along with employment services and an afterschool program for children whose families are experiencing homelessness. Open to HSU students, faculty, staff and the community. For more information, contact the Politics Department at 826-4494 or email politics@humboldt.edu.
