Security Check - Do You Have Level I Data on Your Computer?

November 16, 2018

It's bad enough to have your own social security number on your computer. But it's a lot worse if someone else's information ends up on your computer - that's a situation that can cause problems not just for you but for the university.

So once a year, ITS requires all employees to run Spirion (formerly called Identity Finder) software on their computer to check for the presence of Level I data - the kind of personally identifiable information (including social security numbers) that can be used by hackers and identity thieves. Spirion is already installed on your computer, so just set it to run one day before you leave the office, and it'll be all done by the time you come in next day.

If you find Level I data that  you have a business need to keep on your computer, please let your supervisor know; HSU's information security team needs to know where Level I data is stored on campus. The team will follow up on the results to ensure everyone's computer has been checked.
