An Expo of Learning

HSU Family feature photo

Students flocked to the HSU Library on a recent afternoon for ideaFest, an annual exposition of student research and learning.

In its fifth year, the 2018 ideaFest was bigger than any before, with more than 200 students sharing the culmination of their year’s work and entire academic journey.

Three floors of the Library were packed with research posters, costumes, sculptures, writing, and more. Over the murmur of students talking about their work, music thumped as dance students performed for a cheering crowd. On the first floor, a piano and violin performance greeted people.

Eden Oleson, who was presenting 3-D modeling of an archaeology site she excavated in Belize with class partner Jonathan Roldan, said ideaFest was an opportunity to get out of their academic circle.

“There are great posters and information. It’s a great way to share ideas and learn about other projects,” she said.

Other student projects included a website for connecting community projects with volunteers, digital archiving of HSU’s rare books collection, and more. For a full list of the presentations and more information, visit the ideaFest website. More photos of ideaFest are available here.
