Smart Classrooms

Smart Classrooms are those classrooms which have been equipped with the latest in teaching technology. Comfortable podium style consoles house a variety of media and computer equipment with connection to the latest in LCD projection for bright, clear imagery.

Staff strive to meet the dynamic needs in HSU's Smart Classrooms using a combination of collaboration with HSU faculty, research in emerging instructional technologies and its commitment to provide the best support possible.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo surveyed the Community of Academic Technology Staff (CATS) in January 2007 regarding SmartRoom build-out, support, funding, etc. Results are available in two pdf files. One containing the Smart Room Maintenance and Build-out Report, the other containing Smart Room Technician Commentary.

Access/Orientations

Although many of the Smart Classrooms are equipped alike, a few are unique or similar but not identical. To ensure successful lectures and presentations using instructional technology, faculty are advised to schedule an orientation for each individual room used. Refresher orientations are also recommended for those who have not used Smart Classrooms recently - Smart Classrooms are continually being upgraded and receiving improved capabilities. An orientation may be scheduled any time by calling 707 826-3177 or by email.

Faculty wishing to use Smart Classrooms must acquire a key to access and use the equipment. Keys may be obtained by phoning 707 826-3166 or by stopping by Gist Hall 221.
