Iyengar Yoga for Beginners

If you think past injuries or present health problems have to keep you out of a yoga class, think again. Iyengar yoga — often nicknamed “chiropractic” yoga or “furniture” yoga — is a unique style of yoga that uses props to facilitate correct body alignment, works with ailment sequencing, and relies on longer “pose” hold times. It is accessible to all abilities/ages/physical levels, and it is a compliment to many other types of yoga.

Various props such as chairs, blankets, blocks and straps will be used to explore this therapeutic yoga. We’ll discuss the history of yoga and the research that shows how a regular yoga practice often results in overcoming stiffness, improving posture, and reducing or eliminating aches, pains and common ailments.

You will also get an outline for a daily routine that you can do in your own home, tailor-made for your particular problem areas. Please bring a yoga belt and mat, a blanket (5-6 sq. ft.), and an open heart.

Reiki Level 1 Workshop

Reiki is an ancient Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being healthy.

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to understand how that energy might slow to a trickle at times. Reiki, however, is believed to help increase the flow of one’s energy, much like a cleaning solvent, might open up a pipe that isn’t allowing the water to flow.

It has been scientifically shown to be effective in helping most illnesses and maladies, and it also safe to use in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques.

Five Reiki Masters will introduce you to Reiki and guide you in “hands-on” experience with an amazingly simple, natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement.

At the end of the workshop sessions, you will be given your Level I Certification in the Usui Shiiki Ryoho system of Reiki.
