The English Department offers two minors in
Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), a graduate minor and
an undergraduate minor. Because the undergraduate minor is
almost identical to the program of study leading to a Crosscultural
Language and Academic Development Certificate (CLAD), students
planning to teach in public schools should pursue this minor.
The TESL Minor for the MA is for students who plan to teach in colleges
in the U.S. or ESL or EFL (English as a Foreign Language) abroad.
Requirements for the graduate minor in TESL are
as follows:
Six semester units of a language other than English
taken at the university level or at an intensive language program.
