The Kenneth Burke Society welcomes papers and program proposals for the NCA 2005 Convention in Boston.

Proposals should (1) address Burke's theoretical and critical approach; (2) appropriate Burke's teachings to a communication event; (3) situate Burke's ideas with other lines of scholarship; and/or (4) take Burke's scholarship in a new direction. Papers will be evaluated competitively, resulting in a "Top Student Paper" and "Top Paper" award, as well as a "Top Competitive Papers" panel. Papers should include a 100-word abstract. Panel proposals are also encouraged and should be organized around the conference theme of "The Health of the Discipline." Example paper and panel themes are "The State and Direction of Burkeian Scholarship," "Burke in Boston's Intellectual Circles and the Long-term Influence on Burkeology," "Burkeian Correctives for Cultural Maladies," and so on. Some panels will have the accepted papers posted in advance to encourage conversation.
