GEOGRAPHIC BEE 2009 - State Finals April 3 Sacramento

Winning Question:  The largest city in Siberia, with approximately 1.4 million people, is located on the Trans-Siberian Railway.  Name this city.   (Novosibirsk)

 

19 students scored a perfect 8 out of 8 in the Preliminary Rounds.  The Bee went through ten semi-final rounds, and 17 Final Rounds to determine the top two.  The Championship was decided after three set rounds and two tiebreakers.  Over 400 people attended on a cool and blustery spring day.

Winning question:

Third Place: Aaron Miller, 7th grade, Healdsburg Middle School
A record 31 students scored a perfect 8 in the Preliminary Rounds, and 38 students scored 7/8.  Mr. Desai correctly answered 35 out of 37 questions to win the bee. The Tie-Breaker Round lasted 18 rounds. Over 400 people attended on a warm and lovely spring day.
