Outdoor Movie Night

Time: 9pm
Location: Cypress Lawn

Enjoy a movie under the stars at the Outdoor Movie Night. We will be projecting a movie on a blow up screen on the Cypress Lawn. Drinks and snacks provided. Bring your own blankets!
August 22nd
Humboldt RAMPage!

Time: 7pm - 9pm
Location: UC Quad

Rally and Unite with your RAMP Mentors! Get a chop start on those deep rooted connections that will help you be successful in your first year. DJ music, treats and prizes will be happening! Don't miss it!
August 24th
HSU 100th Birthday Festival

Time: 4pm-7pm
Location: Arcata Plaza

Take a walk back in time at HSU's big Centennial kick-off party. Come on down to the Arcata Plaza, bring the family and be a part of the start of a yearlong celebration. Enjoy birthday cookies, explore old time car exhibits, snap a photo in the Centennial photo booth, view authentic printing press demos from the 1850s to 1950s era and more. There will be many activities for children including make-and-take toy crafts, fire engine rides and fun, educational displays.
HOP Beginning Road Cycling Tour

Time: 4pm-7pm
Location: JGC Parking Lot

Open to HOP participants and their guests. This bike ride will be a great way to acquaint cyclists with the biking trails located near campus. Along the way, local riding areas, local riding ethics, and safety issues will be discussed.
HOP Surfing

Time: 8:30am
Location: JGC Parking Lot

Open to HOP participants and their guests. Join us for an exciting day and learn how to surf at Moonstone Beach, located just ten miles north of Arcata. We will teach you basic techniques and knowledge for a lifetime of ocean fun!
HOP Redwood Forest Day Hike

Time: 8:15am
Location: JGC Parking Lot

Open to HOP participants and their guests. Humboldt State University has endless hiking opportunities in the expansive redwood forest that surrounds the area. Join us for an easy to moderate day hike through this unique ecosystem and experience the awe inspiring and relaxing environment that the forest provides. Trail options may include the renowned Fern Canyon, or the Headwaters Forest Reserve. To end such a great day, participants will be served a fantastic BBQ lunch.
HOP Whitewater Rafting

Time: 8am
Location: JGC Parking Lot

Open to HOP participants and their guests. This trip will offer students a chance to explore the scenic Trinity River. This full day adventures will consist of paddling, swimming and relaxing on a popular “Class III” stretch known as Pigeon Point. No previous river or paddling skills are required. A river safety talk with complete paddling instruction will take place before we get on the river.
HOP Humboldt Bay Sea Kayak Tour

Time: 8:30am - 12:30pm & 12:45 - 4:45pm
Location: JGC Parking Lot

Open to HOP participants and their guests. Join us for a paddle on the Eureka Waterfront and Woodley Island areas. This tour will put in at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center. There will be plenty of opportunity to view wildlife, paddle and enjoy the waterfront from the bay!
HOP Outdoor Rock Climbing

Time: 9:00am
Location: JGC Parking Lot

Open to HOP participants and their guests. Experience the adrenaline of reaching limits that were once thought unreachable. This trip will take place at Patrick’s Point State Park, located about 20 miles north of Arcata. This trip is designed for those with little or no climbing experience who want to experience one of the most rewarding outdoor activities. Topics will cover climbing techniques, safety considerations, belaying and rappelling.
August 25th
HOP Indoor Rock Climbing

Time: 11:00am, 1:00pm & 3:00pm
Location: Student Recreation Center

Open to HOP participants and their guests. This is a great option for folks who are looking for an exciting introduction to the sport of rock climbing. Take a quick break from your day and enjoy learning all of the basics needed to climb on our 46’ climbing wall.
HOP Mountain Biking

Time: 8:45am
Location: JGC Parking Lot

Come to the Quad to sign up for this year's 20th Annual HSU Day of Caring! CSLAI interns will be tabling daily 8/26-9/18 to recruit students for a half day of service at dozens of local agencies on the Day of Caring, Saturday, 9/21/13. Make a difference and get to know your local community! Transportation and a BBQ lunch provided.

Flume

Flume is a 20 year old beatmaker from Sydney. He got his first taste for producing at age 13 from the most unlikely of places – a music production program he found in a cereal box. Taking a no-holds-barred attitude to music creation Flume takes inspiration from a wide variety of sources and scenes distilling his sound into a melodic bass heavy style of his own. International press has come from tastemaking sources including XLR8R (USA – 8.6/10 review), Lodown Magazine (UK – 8/10 review) & Electronic Beats (Germany).

HOP Whitewater Rafting Weekend

Pre-trip meeting: 8/28, 6:00pm, NHE 113

Open to HOP participants. This action packed weekend will take place on the Trinity and/or Klamath River, both located about 70 miles inland from Arcata. This trip includes two days of rafting down amazingly beautiful sections of the river that at times can only be seen by boaters on the river. Experience the excitement and challenges of paddling through many exciting “Class II-III” rapids, while also spending time swimming, relaxing and socializing. Safety instruction will be included prior to departure on the river, leaving this trip an excellent way to learn new boating skills.

HOP Backpacking Weekend

Pre-trip meeting: 8/28, 6:00pm, NHE 106

Open to HOP Paricipants. The North Coast of California is well known for its abundance of accessible areas. This backpacking trip will take place in either the Marble Mountains or Trinity Alps. These unique mountain ranges will expose any level backpacker to the landscapes that paint a mirage of absolute beauty. Image rugged mountain peaks, pristine lakes, grassy meadows and amazing sunsets and you have a picture of what this trip has to offer. This weekend trip will consist of a moderate hike into base camp and plenty of time for day hiking, sunbathing, socializing, fishing and/or just contemplating.

HOP Surfing the North Coast Weekend

Pre-trip meeting: 8/28, 6:00pm, NHE 120

Open to HOP participants. The North Coast has some of the best locations for surfing due to the various wave breaks and the magnificent beauty that surrounds. What better way to begin your stay in Humboldt than with a weekend adventure focusing on learning or refining your skills in surfing. This trip will take place at beginner friendly beaches and will consist of paddling and standing up techniques, water safety, and ocean awareness. Surf etiquette tips will shadow all lessons; by learning and practicing these simple “rules of the water” Humboldt will continue to be a unique place to surf. This trip is designed for those with little or no prior surfing experience, however, experienced surfers are more than welcome to attend as well!

Canyon Music Jam

Bring your instruments to the Canyon Lawn for a massive jam session. Meet other musicians and music fans, perform your newest songs, and find your music community.
August 31st - September 1st
HOP Canoe and Sea Kayak Campout

Pre-trip meeting: 8/27, 6:00pm, NHE 119

Open to HOP participants. This weekend trip will take place at Stone Lagoon State Park. We will spend the first day paddling across the lagoon to the campground in canoes and sea kayaks. The rest of the trip will consist of hiking to the beach, paddling around the lagoon or swimming. The evening will consist of preparing dinner, watching the sunset, socializing at the campfire and sleeping outdoors with the waves crashing in the background. This is truly a unique way of spending the weekend with a new group of people in a beautiful and majestic environment.
