WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?
Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.
Sustainability is important to making sure that we have and will continue to have, the water, materials, and resources to protect human health and our environment. -US Environmental Protection Agency
THE GREEN ROOM CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
How you live in your residence hall or apartment on campus impacts Humboldt State’s sustainability efforts.
The Green Room Certification program empowers Humboldt State students to practice healthy and sustainable living habits while residing on campus. The certificate is awarded to residents for choosing to reduce the amount of energy and water used, waste created, and consumption of limited natural resources.
Choosing a greener lifestyle also helps decrease the environmental impact of Humboldt State while connecting residents to their peers, sustainability-themed courses, and student organizations.
Once certified, residents will receive a customized certificate to post on their door as a way to demonstrate their achievements and their commitment to sustainable living.
