Speaker Series: Ted Bilek on Forest Products Economics

It is our pleasure to welcome Ted Bilek of the US Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory as the next speaker in the Sustainable Futures speaker series. Ted will speak on Thurs, Nov 7 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in Gist Hall room 218 (GH218) on the HSU campus. The title of his talk is “An Outlook for Forest Products and Timber Markets: 2012-2030.”

Ted Bilek is a Midwesterner out of the Universities of Wisconsin and Minnesota. He has been with the USDA Forest Service at the Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin for 13 years. Prior to this, Bilek spent 14 years in Christchurch, New Zealand on the faculty of the University of Canterbury School of Forestry. Bilek’s current research relates to economic and financial feasibility analysis. Additional research interests include modeling, data analysis, and forecasting.

Forest products are centrally important to the economy of the North Coast. Over the past decade, there have been interesting advances in areas related to forest management and utilization, including biomass energy and a host of others. Ted's talk will provide insights about future prospects for markets for forest products. It should be an interesting one, and we encourage you to attend.
