Microsoft Office Gets a Major Update

March 13, 2014

Over the summer, ITS will be upgrading the Microsoft Office versions installed on the computers in all labs and smart classrooms to Office 2013. This may mean you’ll need to make adjustments to your course materials for the academic year beginning in Fall 2014, so we recommend you start thinking about this now to avoid last-minute panics in August.

If you’re not familiar with the capabilities of Office 2013, Microsoft has a useful summary page on their website.

You can upgrade to Office 2013 for your office computer by logging into http://myApps.humboldt.edu and downloading/installing the software yourself.

Please Note: For faculty and staff whose courses or training sessions include instruction on the use of Office applications (such as Intro to Access), or who use Office applications such as Excel for lab activities, we recommend you hold off on upgrading to Office 2013 until the end of this semester.

Faculty and students may also purchase the software for use on personally-owned devices at a heavily-discounted price through the HSU Bookstore. Work At Home licenses are also available through the bookstore at $15 per license (limited to one license per eligible employee). Microsoft Office 365, the online version of the suite, is available to students, staff, and faculty at a special price direct from Microsoft.

Please contact the Technology Help Desk or call them at (707) 826-HELP (4357) if you have any questions.
