FALL 2013 GRADING INFORMATION

December 11, 2013

Grade Rosters for the fall 2013 semester are available via the Faculty Center. A tutorial is available in Faculty Center Help under the Tutorials section entitled “Enter Final Grades.” This tutorial will guide you through the process to enter your fall grades via Faculty Center. It is strongly recommended that you review this tutorial before beginning to enter your grades. Grades must be submitted byMonday, December 23, 2013, 11:59pm.

If you need additional assistance or encounter any problems, you can call our Grades Messaging Line, 707-826-4971.  Messages left on this line will be reviewed during the normal business hours for the Office of the Registrar.  Please leave a voice mail and staff in the Office of the Registrar will return your phone call.

New as of spring 2013

As stated in EO 1037:  Grade forgiveness shall not be applicable to courses for which the original grade was the result of a finding of academic dishonesty.

We have created a new grade, “FD”, to follow this executive order.  This grade will be excluded from any repeat processing but will show on the student’s transcript as “F”.  Please use this new grade of “FD” if any student’s grade was the result of a finding of academic dishonesty (and only for this purpose.)

New as of fall 2012

RP Grading: If an undergraduate student does not complete the coursework within one year; the “RP” grade will be administratively changed to a grade of “F” (Failure) and will be included in the student’s grade point average or to a grade of “NC” (No Credit) depending on the grade mode of the course.  Reminder: An “RP” should only be issued where work assigned extends beyond one academic term.  Otherwise, an “I” grade is more appropriate.

Faculty can create an electronic incomplete contract through the grade roster. The tutorial is available online through the Faculty Center help page: http://humboldt.edu/facultycenter/.

Below are some re-occurring questions/topics that will save you time and frustration if you read them.

  • Should I assign an “F”, a “WU”, or an “I”? A “WU” should be assigned when a student stopped attending, did not drop the class, and did not arrange for an incomplete. An “I” should be assigned only when you have an electronic Incomplete Contract or Authorized Incomplete form on file about what the student should do to complete the Incomplete. Incompletes are not appropriate if you are going to have the student sit in on the class in a future semester. In these circumstances, assign the appropriate grade and have the student register for the class next semester. Often this will mean the student will earn an “F”. An “F” is assigned when the student fails the class by whatever grading standards you have set. DO NOT assign an incomplete in this instance.
  • Grades may be assigned over multiple sessions (when you log out and log back in). Please make sure to save your work before leaving the Faculty Center. If you do not save it, we cannot recover your work.
  • Mac Users – Safari does not support Oracle and PeopleCode and user will get multiple problems when attempting to use the Grade Roster. Mac Users should use FireFox.
  • What does this message mean “All students in the Grade Roster must be graded before it can be approved.”? This means you are missing a grade for one or more students in your roster. You will need to back up and change the approval status back to "Not Reviewed" then enter any missing grade(s). Failure to set the roster to Approved or missing grades will result in your grades not being submitted.

The following link will take you to the memo about grades that gives you more important and useful information.
